Rhythm of London is the Mayor’s Music Education programme. It aims to strengthen and promote music education in the capital by showcasing young musicians, bringing key individuals and organisations together, developing funding streams and providing support and information.
Showcasing the talents of young musicians
Through a series of high profile, public performance opportunities, Rhythm of London showcases the talents of young musicians across London. From chances to busk on the Underground to performing on stage in Trafalgar Square in front of 10,000 people, Rhythm of London seeks out the capital’s most talented young musicians and highlights the fantastic music education work going on in the city.
Why music matters in London
London is home to many of the world’s most important musicians, bands, orchestras, music colleges, and industry players. Live music is also the fastest growing part of the UK’s music industry with the capital hosting an incredible 32,000 plus music performances each year – as many as New York and Paris put together!
Music Education for all young people
The Mayor believes that music education matters and should be supported in London. Music should play a part in every young person’s upbringing, not only because of the educational and training benefits it offers, but also because it can be an enriching enjoyable experience.
