Margareta Burrell

margareta burrell

Early Years Music Specialist

(Dalcroze Lic, PGCE Music Sec, Oboe Diploma, Music therapist)

Margareta’s extensive experience with young children and music stretches over the last 40 years, first with a private practice in Scotland, then in England, where she also trained as a music therapist (Bristol University, 1995).

Her Dalcroze background – making music through movement- has influenced her work with Early Years, where children naturally ‘play’ their first musical instrument: their body.  Experiencing music through movement, combined with careful listening and singing is an appropriate and easy way for young children to communicate and express themselves.

Margareta has been working extensively in many different educational and therapeutic settings, including 12 years at Coram, London as a music leader and therapist. She was Co-Director for the national programme for Early Years music specialists, called ‘Stepping into Music’ (Dalcroze based), as well as delivering workshops, presentations and training, both nationally and internationally.

Over the last five years, she was Head of the new Early Years programme at Berkshire Maestros (Music Hub), planning, expanding, promoting Early Years music through the successful Pantomimus programme. Her focus included the work with parents and young children.

As a small charity we rely upon donations from generous individuals, trusts and companies to support our work with children and young people across London.
