DfE ‘call for evidence’ – National Plan for Music Education

The Department for Education has launched a ‘call for evidence’ to inform the next iteration of the National Plan for Music Education. We encourage you to respond and to support young people, parents and carers to complete it. The deadline is Friday 13 March 2020.

Sound Connections will be submitting a response to amplify priorities shared by our networks (Wired4Music, Music and Social Justice Network and London Early Years Music Network). In particular we will be communicating the following messages:

  • Youth voice and leadership at the core
  • Inclusive practice embedded throughout
  • Extending the age range covered by the plan to 0-25 (from 5-18). Currently children aged 0-4 are excluded from the plan and we are keen this changes
  • Increasing Music Education Hub partnership with, and support for, non-school settings such as youth centres
