Sound Connections COVID-19 Statement

During this very difficult time Sound Connections is committed to supporting music leaders, organisations, and all those in our networks, across London and beyond. We are exploring how we can rework and repurpose our programmes, including our funding streams, to be able to offer helpful, relevant activity and support. There is information about changes we have made so far below, and we will share more updates in due course.

We feel lucky to be part of a supportive team that can help each other through, and want to extend solidarity to all those we exist to support. Our office is closed for the time being and all staff are working remotely, but we are all contactable and available to offer support and guidance where we can. If you don’t have contact details for individual members of the team then please use in the first instance.

Programme updates

With great sadness there are some cancellations and changes to the Wired4Music programme. We are cancelling our face-to-face meet-ups until further notice, though we will be hosting a number of online and over-the-phone 1:1s and group sessions, and will continue to share resources, info and, of course, music via our online platforms.

Generate and Mini DNAs, along with our paid opportunities, monthly newsletter and Wired4Music opportunities page will still continue so please get in touch to see how we can support you. Stay up-to-date here:

Our Hotdesk service and Drop-ins have been cancelled for the foreseeable future.

Wired4Music members can contact us for support via

Workforce development

In most cases we will not be cancelling our workforce development events or programmes but we will review and rework them in response to the current situation.

The application and selection process for Innovate will continue as planned. Induction will take place via video conferencing. We will work with successful applicants to explore how their grant can be used if planned activity is unable to go ahead during April 2020 – February 2021.

London Early Years Music Network

The application and selection process for the Early Years Apprentices will continue as planned. Induction and initial mentoring will take place via video conferencing. We will work with successful applicants on what they can do to further their practice if activity in Early Years settings is unable to go ahead during May 2020 – March 2021.

LEYMN network meetings and Early Years twilight training sessions will be scheduled from October 2020, pending current restrictions being removed.

Music and Social Justice Network

We have sadly cancelled this event. Where possible we are moving our events to online platforms but, in this instance, the session content and interactive nature of the activities weren’t conducive to a webinar format. Instead, the event facilitators Ciaran and Reveal are turning the content into a new resource of practical activities. We are aiming to have the resource ready to share in early April and it will most likely be a PDF accompanied by a ‘how to’ film. We’re really sorry the session can’t go ahead but are pleased that in its place will be an open access resource for all to use.

I Speak Music London launch event

This event will be postponed until Government social distancing measures are relaxed. All delegates will have their place transferred to the new date (when confirmed).

Get Business Ready

This course will be postponed until current Government restrictions are removed. All delegates will have their places transferred to the new date (when confirmed), or can request a refund.

Other training courses

We are in the process of reviewing our other training events, and based on emerging advice will consider moving our offer to an online video conferencing platform. This includes:

  • Youth Voice and Participation for Senior Managers
  • Music and the Nervous System and Approaches to working with children who have English as a Second Language
  • Music and the Youth Sector

We will make an announcement about this over the next few weeks.

Research and consultancy

We are in contact with all existing consultancy clients and are adapting plans as necessary. We also have capacity to take on new consultancy requests during this time. You can find out more about our consultancy service here:

We are working on developing our resources, so watch this space for new Youth Voice blogs, tools and guidance

Take care and stay strong!

This is a strange and unprecedented time, but the sense of community that is emerging from the situation is giving us hope and optimism. We are excited to see what we can learn from adapting to new ways of working, and want to make the most of difficult circumstances!

Take care; we look forward to connecting with you all online soon and seeing you in person when things get back to normal.
