We are recruiting! Deputy Director (Maternity Cover)

Deputy Director part time maternity cover (0.6 contract/3 days per week, fixed term for 12 months)

Deadline for applications: 12 noon, Friday 28 May 2021

Sound Connections is a development organisation championing young people’s music-making, with inclusivity and social justice at the heart. We facilitate Wired4Music, a network for creatives aged 16-25 powered by youth voice; we run a dynamic programme of professional development; and we lead ground-breaking research, advocacy and change programmes. We also run a thriving consultancy service, which in recent years has taken us across the UK and beyond to countries including Poland, Lebanon and Jordan. Our roots are in music but we work with the wider creative and cultural sectors too. We have successfully adapted all our programmes to online delivery during the pandemic.

Sound Connections is recruiting for a part time Deputy Director (maternity cover). The Deputy Director plays a key senior management role in leading Sound Connections’ strategy, programmes and team. We’re an incredibly collaborative team with a deep and active commitment to continually embedding inclusivity and social justice across Sound Connections, our programmes and the wider sector, so we would love to hear from applicants who are experienced in this area. We’re looking particularly for someone with a high level of empathy and emotional intelligence to continue fostering a true culture of inclusivity and wellbeing, and creating an environment in which everyone thrives and feels able to be themselves.

We are also a very flexible, adaptable and creative organisation, and within the role there is plenty of opportunity to bring new and progressive ideas. During 2021-22 we are launching a new strategy and will be celebrating our 20th birthday, so the role holder will play a central part in these significant steps in Sound Connections’ journey.

We welcome enquiries from anyone who would like to discuss the role before applying. We also encourage applicants to share accessibility needs and we will always make reasonable adjustments (you can read more about our accessibility practice in the Job Process document). It’s a varied and exciting role suited to someone with significant senior leadership experience in a relevant field.
