Training & Professional Development

Our Training and Professional Development programme supports creative practitioners, teachers, producers and managers to be more inclusive in their practice.

We deliver professional development programmes for young people, early career professionals, and the wider music education workforce. We provide a mix of practical training; mentoring and support; sharing and networking opportunities; and safe and inclusive spaces to reflect, discuss and be challenged.

Inclusive Practice in Action (IPIA) annual gathering

Our annual IPIA gathering amplifies diverse voices, explores what we mean by inclusive practice, and advocates for a more equitable world. It is an opportunity to pause, reflect, have important conversations, and take away tools and strategies for implementing change.

This career development opportunity is for anyone aged 16-25 who is keen to develop their music leading practice with young children aged 0-5.

Mentoring Programme

Sound Connections’ mentoring programme provides an opportunity to explore your professional needs and interests, and reflect on your practice in a safe and inclusive space with support from a mentor who will be experienced in your area of interest. This programme is open to anyone who wishes to develop and deepen their work with children and young people.

Innovate

Innovate provides funding and support to innovative music projects for young people across England. Aimed at grassroots organisations and individuals, successful candidates work in close partnership with Sound Connections to develop and deliver their project.

Activate supports London-based Music Education Hubs to develop and embed youth voice in their work. We are keen to support and invest in Hubs that already have a demonstrable commitment to, and practice of, youth voice, and are ready to take their next steps up the Ladder of Participation.
